Sea, canals, or rivers, the Languedoc-Roussillon region is characterized by its numerous bodies of water. Boating becomes a pleasant way to explore it. Here are some ideas for sea or river trips departing from Camping L'Occitan in Vias (34).
The Coast by Boat
Whether you have a boat license or are accompanied by a guide, a sea trip along the Mediterranean coast is always enjoyable. Exploring Fort de Brescou off the coast of Agde is one of the destinations offered. This 740,000-year-old islet formed from volcanic lava flow and houses a fort dating back to the 16th century. For the more adventurous, catamaran excursions are also organized from Vias or Agde. Bird watching is part of the experience, as well as dolphin sightings if these friendly mammals decide to greet you!
The Canal du Midi by Barge
A few minutes from our campsite in Vias, the Canal du Midi is one of the department's treasures. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, the most enjoyable way to explore it is by barge. Once again, you can either be on board alone or relax with the shaded flow of large plane trees lining the banks. Its 190,000 trees and 350 engineering structures make it a favored destination for tourists worldwide.
The Hérault River
At the helm of a boat with or without a license, discover the Hérault River. A stress-free journey where you can catch glimpses of Agde as well as the lesser-known inland areas. This river, flowing northward, reveals another, more secluded side of the department, allowing you to enjoy its calm. Hourly and daily excursions, as well as dinner cruises, are organized by various providers. Head to Agde, just 10 minutes from Camping L'Occitan (34), and you'll be spoiled for choice with options to suit your preferences. If you're used to exploring a region on foot, why not try a new experience?
